Celebrating decades of partnership and impact
A testament to community support and dedication
In a year marked by significant anniversaries, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) proudly celebrates the enduring partnerships with two of its associate shops: the New to You Thrift Shop and the Port Thrift Shop.
This year, we honour the 50th anniversary of the New to You Thrift Shop located at 59 Southworth Street North in Welland and the 40th anniversary of the Port Thrift Shop at 12 Charlotte St in Port Colborne. Established in September 1974 and November 1984 respectively, these milestones are a testament to decades of unwavering community support and dedication.
New to You and Port Thrift are ministries of Niagara area Be in Christ Canada churches. Christian Benefit Shop Inc. oversees the operations of New to You and Port Thrift and is on a mission to follow Christ's example by reaching out to those in need, recycling, and selling quality donated items at reasonable prices. Profits from their operations support MCC's global relief efforts and local community needs, ensuring that our impact extends far beyond our shop doors.
...we are grateful for the immense support from our community and partners...
"As we reflect on these milestones, we are grateful for the immense support from our community and partners," said John Williams, board chair of Christian Benefit Shop Inc. "Our journey has been shaped by the generosity of volunteers, staff, donors, and the steadfast partnership with MCC."
Karla Musselman, MCC Ontario’s thrift coordinator, emphasized the importance of this longstanding partnership: "At MCC, we deeply value our relationship with the New to You and Port Thrift Shops. Their dedication to supporting our mission through their operations is a cornerstone of our collective impact, both locally and globally."
The anniversary festivities will kick off with a series of activities at both shop locations throughout the late summer. These events will feature special sales, refreshments, and more, aimed at expressing gratitude to our loyal customers and supporters. Promotions will be showcased on social media, in-shop, and through local churches.
"We invite everyone to join us in celebrating these milestones and supporting our ongoing efforts to make a difference in the lives of those in our community and beyond," added John.
